The Servant Girl
The butterfly effect is a concept based in chaos theory which states that small, seemingly inconsequential changes can lead to major impacts in complex systems. For example, the flap of a butterfly’s wings can lead to a series of events which alter the future. In the story of the little servant girl (2 Kings 5:1-14), a captive servant would seem to have little or no impact when she speaks up. However, her voice leads to the cure for a powerful man, the influential man becomes a follower of God (although he was not Jewish), and hope for the Jews. This nameless girl’s bravery to speak led to significant changes.
Too often, we feel that we have little are no influence, but we never know how our small endeavors lead to big bearing. This is especially true when it comes to the kingdom of God. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can impact the world in a way which we never imagined.
In Christ,
