Wisdom from Paul for the 250th
If you worshipped with us after Easter this past year, you may remember that we embarked in a sermon series, “Seeing Red,” in which we looked at the red letters of Jesus. As in some versions of the Bible mark the teachings of Jesus in red font. While Paul doesn’t have a font color for his words, maybe he should. For Paul certainly offers wisdom for us as we live to follow Jesus today. Romans 12:9-21 is one such passage of wisdom.
In fact, I think that this is great advice as we approach the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. Paul instructs on sincerity of faith, a life rooted in hope, leaving judgment to God, and loving those whom we have a hard time loving. All of this is understanding which we need, and I dare say this is also understanding which our nation needs. I encourage you to spend some time this week in the “red letters of Paul.” In them, may you find grace for the journey and guidance for celebrating 250 years of our country.
Happy 4th of July,
Rev. Sherri
