Eve, Genesis 3
Sermon Notes: Thursday, Sept 11 and Sunday, Sept 14
Today I deleted all the game apps from my phone. I removed them because I was spending too much time playing electronic games. I really enjoy my gaming apps, but one game would turn into another and another and before I knew it too much time had passed. Even having the apps on my phone was tempting me to play, so I decided to avoid temptation by getting rid of the source. Phone gaming apps are just one of the distractions of life which lead me into temptation. What tempts you?
For Eve it was great knowledge (Genesis 3). She could not resist the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of God and evil. With some prompting from the serpent, she ate and encouraged Adam to eat too. From there, they were expelled from paradise, and the story of temptation has been our story ever since. Fortunately, God equips us to stand against temptation. Through scripture, prayer, and encouragement we have a defense. The good news is that even when we give into temptation, that God’s grace is bigger than our sins. “He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins.” (1 John 1:9a)
