Sermon Notes, Living on a Prayer

Do you remember the song Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi? Have you ever felt like you were living on a prayer? A lot of believers fall back to the Lord’s Prayer in times when they are not sure how to pray. The disciples asked Jesus how they should pray and this is the prayer he taught them. Join us on Sunday at the Celebration Service at 9am as we discuss some of the sections of this prayer.
1.Our Father (not my father, this is a community. We have unity with people around the world. People who worship in different styles than us, people who vote different than us, have different opinions and theologies, our God is the loving God of all of us. This reminds us of our Christian family.)
2.Hallowed be Thy name (God is worthy of our honor, respect)
3.Thy Kingdom Come on earth as it is in heaven (what is the kingdom of God like? Are we supposed to be working to bring about that Kingdom on earth? We have a lot to discuss about this on Sunday)
4.Give us this day our daily bread. (We ask for our daily needs to be met)
5.Forgive us as we forgive others. (Forgiving others can be hard to do. It is helpful to remember the grace and forgiveness God extends to us. We are told to do the same for others.
Matthew 6:9-13
New International Version
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,[a]
but deliver us from the evil one.[b]’
