I'm a Believer

Sermon Notes, Celebration Worship

This entire month we are having our Rocktober sermon series in the Celebration Service. This week we start with "I’m a Believer" from the 60’s. I got to see Davey Jones perform at Epcot in 2008. The song has says “Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer, not a trace, of doubt in my mind”. Our scripture talks about the time Thomas had to see Jesus back from the dead with his own eyes to be a believer. He had to see the face of Jesus and actually see the wounds on his arms too.
Some key points from this passage that we will talk about this Sunday.
•Jesus was not angry with Thomas for having doubts.
•We need to be respectful of where other people are at on their spiritual journey. Why might they currently have doubts?
• We all struggle with doubt from time to time.
• John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist church, struggled with faith at times. We will talk about what he did to grow in faith.
Join us for Celebration and stay at 10am for Blessing of the Animals @ 10am in the Greenspace.
John 20:24-30
Common English Bible
Jesus appears to Thomas and the disciples 24 Thomas, the one called Didymus,[a] one of the Twelve, wasn’t with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 The other disciples told him, “We’ve seen the Lord!” But he replied, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands, put my finger in the wounds left by the nails, and put my hand into his side, I won’t believe.” 26 After eight days his disciples were again in a house and Thomas was with them. Even though the doors were locked, Jesus entered and stood among them. He said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here. Look at my hands. Put your hand into my side. No more disbelief. Believe!” 28 Thomas responded to Jesus, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus replied, “Do you believe because you see me? Happy are those who don’t see and yet believe.” 30 Then Jesus did many other miraculous signs in his disciples’ presence, signs that aren’t recorded in this scroll.
