Woven Continued: The Body of Christ-Behive with Bees
Across cultures and history, bees symbolize hard work. Have you even heard the expression as busy as a bee? They also have come to mean community and cooperation, as they come together to do the work of the hive. This is why bees are a wonderful symbol for how the church works together. Just as we all have differing roles and abilities in the church, so do bees in the hive. It takes all the bees to do what they do best for the hive to thrive, just as it takes all of us to come together for the church to thrive.
Paul wrote about how God’s people in the church work together (1 Corinthians 12:4-27), much like a body. Maybe we could also expand the imagery to how God’s people work together much like a beehive. The next time you gaze upon a bee, remember that we are equipped and empowered with gifts to serve in the church, with everyone doing his or her part for the church to come together like a hive. You are needed and valued in the church for First United Methodist of Gadsden to “bee” it’s best.
