Woven Continued: Fruit of the Spirit-The Strawberry

Mar 15, 2026    Rev. Sherri Reynolds

How does a strawberry connect with being a Christian? The strawberry grows close to the ground, which is said to represent humility. In medieval art, the strawberry often appears in the garden of Mary, mother of Jesus. In the painting, Madonna of the Strawberries, Mary is seated on a strawberry bed and garlanded with strawberry leaves. Additionally, Strawberries, along with other fruit, symbolize the fruit of the spirit. While there is not a specific reference to a strawberry in the Bible, there is still a connection reminding us of the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

When the Holy Spirit works in your life, you notice the traits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, and self-control. Like with an actual strawberry, your fruit may not be fully mature in these areas, but hopefully you are growing. This week, pause to consider how you are ripening in faith through love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-25)
