I'm New

Welcome

I welcome you on behalf of our church family at First United Methodist Church!  We have been in the heart of the city of Gadsden sharing God’s love since the mid 1800’s.  You will find this church to be a welcoming place, made up of people reflecting a variety of ages and races.  GFUMC is passionate about providing opportunities for children, youth, young adults and seniors to learn and grow in their faith.  We do this by offering variety of different Journey Groups, as well as traditional Sunday School. Some groups meet at 6:00 pm on Wednesday nights, others on different days and times.
We are also passionate about worship, providing an upbeat, contemporary worship service (Celebration Service) at 8: 45 am on Sunday, a beautiful traditional worship service (Traditions) at 10: 55 am on Sundays, and a casual, simple worship service on Thursday evenings at 5:30 pm.  The music at GFUMC will feed your soul!
GFUMC is engaged in service to our community through several missions.  It is our heart-felt desire to be “the hands and feet of Jesus” locally, regionally, and to the ends of the earth.  We would love to have you come and join us on the journey.
Grace and peace,
Sam Hayes
Senior Pastor

What To Expect

Celebration Service:  The Celebration Service meets at 8:45 am on Sunday mornings in our gym.  You will find a casual atmosphere, and contemporary music with a great band and singers.  Children ages 4 – 5th grade go to children’s church with our Children’s Minister after the first part of the service.  A nursery is also available.

Traditions Service:  The Traditions Service meets in the Sanctuary at 10:55 am on Sunday mornings.  You will find a “traditional” setting, with a choir, pipe organ and piano, and liturgy that includes The Apostles’ Creed and The Lord’s Prayer.  Children ages 4 – 5th grade go to children’s church with our Children’s Minister after the first part of the service, and a nursery is available.

Thursday Night Service:  Several years ago, GFUMC started a Thursday night worship service that meets at 5:30 pm in our Sanctuary.  The purpose of starting this service is to provide an opportunity to worship for those who have to work on Sundays, or those who will be out of town on the weekend.  This is a casual laid-back service.  We pray, and a sermon is given by one of our ministers, then we sing the “doxology” and we’re done.  It’s about a 30-35 minute service.

Wednesdays:  Wednesdays are pretty busy around GFUMC!  We have an 11:00 am Wednesday Morning Bible Study that meets in Room 108 (The Seekers class room), followed by a Prayer Meeting at noon in the Sanctuary.  Wonderful Wednesday meets August through May and is a midweek opportunity to connect through fellowship, Bible Study, Small Groups, Youth Group and Children's Ministry Activities.  We have dinner in the Gathering Room at 5: 15 pm, then classes for children, youth and adults are offered at 6:00 pm.  There is a nursery available during Wonderful Wednesday from 5 pm to 7 pm.   During the summer special activities for youth group and Children's Ministry are ongoing--so check with these ministry groups for more information.   Choir Rehearsal is on Wednesday at 6: 30 pm.

Mosaic is a Ministry of Gadsden First United Methodist Church
When and Where? Tuesday Nights, 6:30 pm @ the Back Forty in the back room.        Who is Welcome?  When we say everyone, we really mean it. This is for anyone in the community who isn’t sure or is exploring their faith, those who have felt excluded or hurt by the church, our LGBTQI+ friends, those who work an odd shift and can’t attend church on Sundays. Christ’s table is huge and welcoming!  What to expect?  A Grace filled, Christ centered community; a message from scripture, faith discussions, new friendships, and sometimes we may even have someone lead a song or two.
