She Made Jesus Cry
6-13-21Sermon Notes“She Made Jesus Cry”
Have you already guessed who this week’s “mysterious woman of the Bible” is? Let me give you a few more hints. She and her sister and brother were pretty well off for their day and time. There is no mention of their parents, but they had a house that was large enough to accommodate many people, and they were generous with their hospitality. Probably orphans, none of the three siblings was married.
Jesus was very close to this family. Think about it…everyone needs a group of people that they feel comfortable being around – people to hang out with… Jesus had that kind of friendship with this mysterious woman, her older sister, and her brother. Simply put: Jesus loved them.
This mysterious woman’s name means “wise woman.” Her older sister’s name meant “lady of the house” (and wow, did that ever fit her sister!) Her brother’s name meant, “God has given help.” (also very fitting, when you consider what Jesus did for him!)
The main hint for this week is “she made Jesus cry.”
Our scripture this Sunday will be John 11: 35. You might want to go ahead and read the whole 11th chapter of John before Sunday. We will also look at two other places in the New Testament where we see something about our mysterious woman. She teaches us about discipleship, worship, and even something about mourning. I hope you can join us.
See you Sunday!
