An Adventure Awaits

I have heard that following Jesus is not only about the destination, but also about the journey. Don’t get me wrong, heaven will be great, but the path to get there is great too. This is the great adventure will God. This adventure is filled with heroes, perils, miracles, and challenges; but it is always filled with God’s presence. As followers of Jesus, we know how the adventure will end, but it is exciting to stop and enjoy the journey along the way too.

               The Exodus Story of Moses and the Israelites is a great adventure from Scripture. The crossing of the Red Sea particularly reflects all the elements of an adventure (Exodus 14:15-25). Pharoah has decided to allow the Israelites to go free, but then changes his mind. Pharoah sends his army after them. This leaves the Israelites stuck between a powerful army on one side and a sea on the other, there appears to be no escape. God provides a way for them to escape, and he guides them with a cloudlike pillar of his presence. They escaped, but the adventure doesn’t end there. The story continues past the Red Sea to a journey of the land which was promised to their ancestors.

               Reflect on your journey. How many times have you found yourself between an enemy and an obstacle, without a way out? How many times has God unexpectedly provided a way you, which you did not expect? Pause and give thanks for all the ways God has led you on your adventure of faith.
