Jeremiah 1:4-10 Common English Bible (CEB) Call of Jeremiah 4 The LORD's word came to me: 5 "Before I created you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I set you apart; I made you a prophet to the nations." 6 "Ah, LORD God," I said, "I don't know how to speak because I'm only a child." 7 The LORD responded, "Don't say, 'I'm only a child.' Where I send you, you must go; what I tell you, you must say. 8 Don't be afraid of them, because I'm with you to rescue you," declares the LORD. 9 Then the LORD stretched out his hand, touched my mouth, and said to me, "I'm putting my words in your mouth. 10 This very day I appoint you over nations and empires, to dig up and pull down, to destroy and demolish, to build and plant."

Jeremiah is scared when he is called by God, He has the excuse that he is too young. What excuses do you come up with? Too young, not educated enough in a certain area, not comfortable speaking to strangers? We all have those times when we make excuses to avoid God's leading in our lives. 1.)Let's not judge others on age, gender, etc. when someone is called by God or put in a leadership position. Jeremiah, after all, was young and God used him to do mighty things. 2.)Be careful to not let our fears hold us back from being used by God to do great things in the lives of those around us. 3.)Have you ever heard the story of Balaam's donkey speaking in Numbers 22:26?" 26 Then the angel of the LORD moved on ahead and stood in a narrow place where there was no room to turn, either to the right or to the left.27 When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, it lay down under Balaam, and he was angry and beat it with his staff. 28 Then the LORD opened the donkey's mouth, and it said to Balaam, "What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?" I'll never forget hearing the Christian singer, Rich Mullins, speak about this passage. It's forever ingrained in my mind. He basically said if God can speak to Balaam through his donkey, don't think of yourself to highly. Don't get a big head about it. It's all about God, we are just the vessel God is using.
